Incoming WV Lawmaker Goes Off the Rails

A bit of dustup took place in West Virginia this week when an incoming state lawmaker appeared to have gone off the rails a bit.

Joseph DeSota, who was elected to his first term in November for the West Virginia state legislature, was arrested on Thursday.

According to local police, he "had made several threatening/intimidating threats against government officials.”

He Just Lost It

West Virginia State Police Lt. Leslie T. Goldie Jr. broke the news to the media about the incident.

Goldie stated, "The West Virginia State Police and the West Virginia Capitol Police take all threats against government process seriously.

"Any person making these threats used to intimidate, disrupt, or coerce the members of our West Virginia legislature or other governmental bodies will not be tolerated."

DeSota, who ran as a conservative, is a physician-scientist, biblical scholar, conservative writer, and former U.S. Army combat medic, clearly was out of sorts here.

His election bio stated, “Joseph has written over three hundred articles on gun rights, pro-life, parental rights, low taxes, against corporate cronyism, protecting girl’s-sports, religious exemptions from vaccinations, illegal immigration, against transgender surgery of children, protecting the elderly, and protecting marriage, and taking schools back to basics.”

DeSota was apparently upset after the GOP caucus was discussing his expulsion, as DeSota announced that he was going to change his affiliation to the Democrat Party immediately after being elected.

The police report added, "Mr. DeSoto has been very upset over things that have been occurring with the political group and things that he believes are being said against him and feels that he is being attacked and forced out of his position.”

West Virginia Republican Party chairman Matt Herridge did not hold back in his criticism of DeSota for his actions, stating, “Our elected officials sacrifice a lot to serve their communities, and it is a travesty for anyone to face the additional burden of threats made against themselves and their families.”

He was referring to statements allegedly made by DeSota, saying that he would “kill” members of the legislature.

If you ask me, it looks a lot like DeSota was pretending to be a conservative to run as a Republican, then changed his affiliation to give Dems the seat after being elected.

I am not a fan of someone changing their party affiliation after being elected, especially if it tilts the majority for control.

He 100% should be expelled, but it would now appear that DeSota took care of that himself with his insane threats against the other members of the legislature.
