Well, now I have seen it all.
USA Today gave Hutner some white space to fill, and he did that by claiming Republicans are politicizing his addiction to hurt his father politically.
Forget the fact that he blatantly broke the law. This is clearly an attempt to gain public sympathy and to pressure Republicans to halt their investigation, but I just don’t see that happening.
Poor Hunter
In his op-ed, Hunter wrote, “After what I have gone through since my brother [Beau] died in 2015, and the perpetual public humiliation of me, I am now certain I can survive anything (except a drink or a drug).
“The effort of recovery is something that should be celebrated, and I hope that despite my role as the punchline and punching bag for some, others will also make the effort I have made.”
So, let’s be clear about something here…
Everything that Hunter has “gone through” since his brother died has been self-inflicted, so he gets no empathy there.
He continued, “My struggles and my mistakes have been fodder for a vile and sustained disinformation campaign against [President Biden], and an all-out annihilation of my reputation through high-pitched but fruitless congressional investigations and, more recently, criminal charges for possessing an unloaded gun for 11 days five years ago – charges that appear to be the first-ever of their kind brought in the history of Delaware.”
Hunter also claimed, “The weaponization of my addiction by partisan and craven factions represents a real threat to those desperate to get sober but are afraid of what may await them if they do.”
No, Hunter, it does not. This has nothing to do with your recovery and everything to do with the fact that you broke the law, owned a gun illegally, and used your father to profit in business, if not involving him directly in those business deals.
Mollie Hemingway of The Federalist summed this up at its best…
1) I pray Hunter is in fact sober, though this level of untreated narcissism suggests serious ongoing problems.
2) legit LOL at USA Today for running this on-its-face absurd interference for Biden family business corruption. pic.twitter.com/2DKPhVPtqH— Mollie (@MZHemingway) November 2, 2023
This tells me that the Bidens are getting desperate because the walls are closing in on them.
The strategy will not work, at least not on the right because as Democrats love to say, nobody is above the law.
