Hunter Biden Loses Motions Before Upcoming Trial
Hunter Biden is having about as much luck making motions in his case as Donald Trump has had.
To that point, several motions made by Hunter’s team with the upcoming tax evasion trial were rejected by the court.
One of the key issues was Biden being able to blame his tax evasion on his drug use.
Denied
Hunter’s trial is currently slated to start on September 9, just prior to the presidential debates, so I am sure that Trump will try to work that into his attacks somehow.
Hunter drew Judge Mark Scarsi, a Trump appointee, so I would not expect Hunter to win many motions in this case.
This latest hearing centered around what could and could not be presented as evidence, and Hunter Biden's attorney, Mark Geragos, was clearly getting frustrated that just about every motion he presented was being denied.
For instance, Hunter’s legal team wanted to use an expert witness to testify about Hunter’s addiction issues, but that was denied.
Scarsi also rejected allowing the defense to discuss that Hunter eventually paid his back taxes.
Prosecuting attorney Leo Wise argued, “No matter how many drugs you can take, you don’t suddenly forget that when you make $11 million, you have to pay taxes.”
To this point, Hunter had not seemed willing to take a plea deal, but there is a mountain of evidence against him and with all of these motions being denied, I don’t see how he wins this case.
He could gamble that he would win on appeal, but the evidence is what it is, and even liberal legal experts admit that Hutner has an uphill climb here.
I believe if Hunter could get a deal that would not involve jail time, he would probably take it, but that is about it.
This will also drive some urgency in the Harris campaign, as I would assume that Harris would pardon Hunter if she wins, characterizing the prosecution of Hunter as being politicized, even though it is Hunter’s father’s DOJ prosecuting the case.
