House Republicans Say Bragg Partisan in Prosecution of Trump

This week, Donald Trump implored House Republicans to try to end these cases against him, and that is what they are apparently trying to do now.

A new House Judiciary Report, which is chaired by longtime Trump-loyalist Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), released a report regarding the Bragg prosecution of Trump, the only federal indictment that has found its way into the courtroom thus far.

The report accused Bragg of a “partisan aim” to prosecute Trump.

The Bias is Clear

According to the report, Manhattan DA Alving Bragg only brought the case against Trump due to pressure from the Democrat Party.

In part, the committee stated, “The story behind the [district attorney of New York’s] investigation into President Trump and the people involved illustrate the clear partisan aim of this case.”

You can read the full report on the House Judiciary website (click here).

Much of the report centers on former special prosecutor Mark Pomerantz, who had testified before committee.

The committee stated, “When Pomerantz appeared before the Judiciary Committee to discuss his book and politically motivated investigation, he was unusually silent—refusing to answer even the most basic of questions.”

Pomerantz took the 5th on more than 200 questions, saying he could not divulge privileged information, yet he published a book called “People vs. Donald Trump: An Inside Account.”

On the book, committee members stated, “Pomerantz’s book, described as a ‘300-page exercise in score-settling and scorn,’ revealed the extent to which the DANY’s investigation of President Trump was politically motivated.

“Pomerantz described his eagerness to investigate President Trump, writing that he was ‘delighted’ to join an unpaid group of lawyers advising on the Trump investigation, and joking that salary negotiations had gone ‘great’ because he would have paid to join the investigation.”

They then go on to focus on how Bragg was pressured to bring charges against Trump, stating, “Bragg’s decision to bring forth this case following Pomerantz’s public pressure campaign—and after essentially abandoning the DANY’s previous Trump investigations at the beginning of his tenure—raises considerable suspicion as to whether political pressure played a role in his decision.”

This is not the end of this, as the committee has already hinted that it will recommend legislation to address this issue, legislation that will never be passed because it would have to make it through the Senate and then be signed by Biden to become law.

This amounts to posturing by pro-Trump Republicans who are now doing nothing more than vying for votes by wasting taxpayer money on the crafting of this legislation.

I get that they want to help Trump, but why even bother crafting legislation that has absolutely no chance of becoming law? This is campaigning on our dime, which is why it is upsetting to me because I want to see Republicans pass meaningful legislation that will help them improve their majority, not posting legislation that will only serve to drive more voters away from Republicans in the 2024 cycle.
