Two weeks ago, we finally got our wish and Joe Biden finally visited the border.
The only problem was that the visit was hardly a representation of what is really going on at the southern border.
For all intents and purposes, the entire city of El Paso was scrubbed.
Now GOP House Oversight Committee members want to know why.
The Photo Op
So, this was our greatest fear, right? Biden would go, but he would visit an area without any real migrant action and the city would be cleaned up.
Only a week before Biden's visit, El Paso's downtown are looked like a homeless camp. For several days, local police and CBP arrested migrants and moved them to holding facilities to get them off the street.
Then the entire city was cleaned up so Biden had a nice, clean photo op to show the liberal horde that there was no real problem at the border.
I would be willing to bet just about anything that El Paso was paid with our tax dollars to do the cleanup.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) wrote to Secretary Mayorkas, "For weeks, large encampments of homeless illegal border crossers—released by the Biden Administration—have encamped on the streets of El Paso.
"These encampments were cleared immediately prior to President Biden's visit to the city on January 8, 2023. We write to understand the circumstances surrounding the role DHS played in clearing homeless illegal border crossers for President Biden's visit to El Paso."
When this was happening in real time, the National Border Patrol Council was livid, tweeting out, "El Paso is being cleared up as if nothing unusual ever happened there. Just in time for Biden's 'visit to the border.'"
Biden also took heat from several liberal groups who felt the roundup was reminiscent of the Trump administration. That, coupled with Biden's new immigration app, really sent them all over the edge.
My expectation is that Mayorkas will ignore the letter and we will have to wait until he gets called before the Committee to get any answers at all.
