House Ethics Investigation Could Derail Gaetz AG Nomination

Donald Trump set the country ablaze last week when he named Matt Gaetz as his AG appointment.

Gaetz immediately resigned his seat in the House, which he did not need to do until he was approved for the position.

Now it appears that he resigned purposely to derail an ethics investigation by the House Ethics Committee.

Getting Out

Once Gaetz resigned his seat, by rule, the investigation is closed in the House, as he is no longer a member of Congress.

However, the report was apparently completed, with the committee having been scheduled to vote on whether to publicize the report on Friday.

That vote was put off once Gaetz resigned, but now there is a question of whether the Senate and the American people should be privy to that report.

According to reports, in the course of the investigation, one witness testified that she saw Gaetz “having sex with a minor.”

While Speaker Johnson (R-LA) wants the committee to seal the report, there are Senate Republicans demanding to see the report.

For instance, Senator Joni Earnst (R-IA) stated that Gaetz has an “uphill climb” to being confirmed.

In the House, Rep. John Duarte (R-CA) stated, “If he’s going to continue through that process … I think the Ethics report needs to come out.

“I just don’t want an attorney general who’s compromised, with that kind of a report hanging out there that could be used to compromise him.”

This may not be popular, but I agree completely.

If Gaetz is going to be the top DOJ official, he needs to be squeaky clean and not rely on a technicality to bury the report.

The last thing we need is a scandal coming out after he has been confirmed because he was not properly vetted.

I do not believe he is qualified for the position anyway, and I think this appointment is one that Trump has to know will not get through the Senate, but he made it just to scare Democrats.

To me, Gaetz is a clown more worried about being a hit on social media than he was about legislating, and I don’t see that changing if he is running the DOJ.

The ideal candidate would be someone who has dedicated his or her life to the justice system, is completely unbiased, and will reform the DOJ and our agencies. I just don’t think that defines Gaetz.
