House Democrats sign letter that could trigger arms embargo on Israel
If you're an ally of Israel, then a group of Democrats in America just broke your heart.
According to Breitbart, "Seventy-seven Democrats in the House of Representatives signed a letter Thursday accusing Israel of violating human rights law, disagreeing with the Biden-Harris administration and potentially triggering an arms embargo on Israel."
Surprisingly, even "well-known left-wing Jewish Democrats, such as Reps. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) and Sara Jacobs (D-CA)" signed the letter.
The letter begins by appearing to support Israel, but pretty immediately contradicts that claim.
In the letter, the 77 Democrats say that "Israel is not complying with international human rights law and humanitarian law, which would mean that the U.S. would have to cut off arms sales to the Jewish state, even as it faces a war on several fronts against terrorists and the Iranian regime."
The Jewish News Syndicate provided more information:
While the letter does not make an explicit request to halt aid, it references the statute requiring the administration to cut off arms sales to countries that block delivery of humanitarian aid, and accuses Israel of deliberately restricting aid.
The letter asks the administration to create a full assessment of Israel’s compliance with U.S. arms sales laws, saying that their concerns “remain urgent and largely unresolved, including arbitrary restrictions on humanitarian aid and insufficient delivery routes, among others.”
The letter was led by Reps. Jason Crow (D-CO), Madeleine Dean (D-PA) and Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA).
This effort is being backed "by the left-wing, George Soros-funded J Street group, which often opposes Israel in Congress."
It's very clear who America should be supporting in the war between Hamas and Israel, but Democrats seem to keep getting it wrong.
Israel is one of America's oldest and most devoted allies, so America should stand by its leaders when it's needed.
It's baffling why so many Democrats are trying to pour money into Ukraine, to which America doesn't really have an allegiance but seem to want to ignore Israel's cries for help against the savage terrorist group Hamas.
Joe Biden should come out and set a precedent that America will stand with one of its oldest allies, despite the efforts of some of those in his party.
If he's unwilling to do that, then it's fair to question where his allegiances lie.
