Hoax: Letter claiming former President Jimmy Carter died confirmed false

Former President Jimmy Carter, who is 99 years old, is aging and receiving palliative care, but according to official reports, has not passed on yet.

News broke just days ago in the form of a fake letter, that former President Carter had died, causing a media frenzy zy before being debunked by the Carter Center, as Atlanta News First reported.

Disinformation regarding the supposed demise of the ex-president has gone viral online, even pulling in some members of the media.

The letter that has been widely circulated claims that former President Jimmy Carter has passed away, which is a hoax, according to the Carter Center, which stated this to Atlanta News First on Tuesday.

The Spread

The erroneous death notification has been seen by hundreds of thousands of individuals during the course of its spread on social media sites such as X.

The Carter Center did not wish to provide any further commentary on the issue, which is likely an emotional one for those working at the namesake organization.

Carter, who is 99 years old, continues to receive hospice care in Plains, Georgia, where he was born and raised. He will turn 100 on October 1st, 2024.

The Family

Rosalynn Carter, who had been married to the former president for 77 years, passed away on November 19 of last year at the age of 96.

The pair served together in the White House from Jan. 20, 1977 to Jan. 20, 1981.

The former president was seen attending her memorial service in Atlanta, which took place at the Glenn Memorial Church, an affiliate of Emory University.

Jason Carter, Carter's grandson, stated in June that his grandfather's condition has not significantly changed since he began receiving hospice care more than a year ago.

“After 77 years of marriage… I just think none of us really understand what it’s like for him right now,” Jason told Southern Living. “We have to embrace that fact, that there’s things about the spirit that you just can’t understand.”
