Head of UN watchdog accuses UNRWA of hiring people 'who were supporting terrorism'
President Donald Trump has been making major foreign policy moves during his first few weeks in office.
He's not done yet.
According to Fox News, Trump is cutting off American funding to the controversial United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
When Trump said he was going to "drain the swamp," he was referring to getting corruption out of American and world politics.
UNRWA seems like a great place to start, as the agency has been scrutinized for alleged ties to terrorists for a while.
Even Joe Biden, who was notoriously bad at making military and war-related decisions, knew UNRWA was up to no good.
Biden initially cut off American funding to UNRWA in January 2024 after Israel accused members of the agency of taking part in Hamas' brutal attacks.
U.N. Watch Executive Director Hillel Neuer recently warned the world about UNRWA.
He said that UNRWA and other United Nations agencies were founded on good intentions but have since "morphed into something which is the complete opposite of what it was supposed to be."
UNRWA's website says it was founded in 1949 "to carry out direct relief and works programs for Palestine refugees."
Neuer pointed to the head of UNRWA's education system as an example of the organization's connections to terrorism.
"We know that the head of UNRWA's education system, namely, teacher, school principal, and head of the teachers’ union of 2,000 teachers in Lebanon, was a man named Fathi al-Sharif… he was the head of Hamas in Lebanon," Neuer said.
Unfortunately, it was American taxpayers' dollars that founded al-Shariff and "the entire education system that he oversaw."
If you believe UNRWA, the group released a statement saying it "prohibits any type of involvement of staff in a militant or armed group. As a representative of the U.N., any involvement in a group that promotes discrimination or violence violates the principle of neutrality and gravely jeopardizes UNRWA’s ability to provide services and protection to refugees."
