Harvey Weinstein Rape Conviction Overturned
There has been a very interesting development in one of the rape convictions of Harvey Weinstein that could, believe it or not, impact one of Trump’s cases.
In fact, it is the case being tried in New York right now before Judge Merchan by Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg.
The reason the rape conviction was overturned is what caught my eye in this case.
Verdict Overturned
Now, I want to be clear… Weinstein is about as low as they come and deserves to never see the blue light of the sky again.
The fact one of his convictions is being overturned disgusts me, but that is not what I am focusing on here.
This is all about why this verdict was overturned and how it could impact a Trump case.
Weinstein had been sentenced to more than two decades in jail for forcing oral sex on one woman and having raped another.
The rape conviction was overturned in a 4-3 decision by the appellate court. The ruling was overturned because the judge in the case allowed testimony for accusations that were not specifically related to the charges against Weinstein.
Now, if that sounds familiar, that is because it sounds a lot like what Judge Merchan is going to permit Bragg to do if Trump testifies in the hush-money case.
Merchan has agreed to allow evidence from Trump’s previous trials to be introduced in order to discredit his testimony.
I stated at the time, this is something that is very rarely allowed in a court of law, even to the point that judges will not permit other murder allegations and the like to be introduced to a trial that is not specifically related to that charge.
When Merchan made that ruling, I stated that this case was ripe to be overturned on appeal, and this ruling now has me more confident than ever that if Bragg somehow manages to convict Trump in this flimsy case, the verdict will never stand during the appeals process.
