Harris releases health report in hopes of creating contrast with Trump
In what some might suggest is a sign of campaign uncertainty, if not desperation, Democratic Party presidential nominee Kamala Harris has released a report from her physician detailing the state of her health.
According to Harris, her willingness to provide such materials to the public stands in contrast with the conduct of her opponent, former President Donald Trump, who has offered fewer details about his personal health status, as the Associated Press reports.
Harris' status outlined in report
The information released by the Harris campaign was compiled by Dr. Joshua Simmons, physician to the vice president, who offered details on the condition of the 59-year-old presidential hopeful.
Simmons declared that Harris “possesses the physical and mental resiliency required to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency, to include those as Chief Executive, Head of State and Commander in Chief."
The doctor further indicated that he has served as Harris' physician throughout her tenure as vice president and offered additional information about minor afflictions from which she suffers.
Simmons revealed that Harris does have occasional issues with seasonal allergies and urticaria, also referred to as hives, but has been able to “dramatically” improve symptoms in recent years through her use of immunotherapy drugs.
The report also noted that Harris does not suffer from hypertension and has a low risk for heart disease and that her head, eyes, ears, nose, and pharynx showed no signs of abnormalities.
Contrast with Trump attempted
The AP revealed that the Harris camp hopes that the report draws new scrutiny to Trump's health status and supposed unwillingness to provide information, with the VP herself saying on Saturday, “It's clear to me that he and his team do not want the American people to really see what he is doing and if he is fit to be the president.”
Harris' attempt to goad Trump into new releases spurred a swift response from the former president's campaign team, as The Hill noted, with spokesperson Steven Cheung suggesting that the difference in the two candidates' physical and mental stamina is easy to see just by looking at the packed schedule followed by Trump and the sparse number of appearances on the VP's slate.
Answering Harris' claim that Trump has not been forthcoming with details of his health, Cheung noted that the former president “voluntarily released updates from his personal physician, as well as detailed reports from Dr. Ronny Jackson, who treated him after the first assassination attempt.”
Cheung went on, “All have concluded he is in perfect health and excellent heath to be Commander in Chief. He has maintained an extremely busy and active campaign schedule unlike any other in political history, whereas Kamala Harris has been unable to keep up with the demands of campaigning and reveals on a daily basis she is wholly unqualified to be President of the United States.”
Considering Harris' years of complicity in keeping President Joe Biden's obvious physical and mental decline from the American people, her sudden concern about whether Trump's medical reports are made public seems more than a little disingenuous.
