Harris Continues Raising Money for ‘Recount Account,’ But…
Well, Kamala Harris appears to be running a bit of a scam on her supporters.
Somehow, after raising more than $1 billion for her campaign and more than $1.6 billion overall, the Harris campaign is in the red by some $20 million.
So, Harris is still raising money, claiming it will be for a “recount” effort.
Not Happening
Most states have an automatic recount trigger when a race falls within a certain percentage, usually about 0.5% or somewhere in that neighborhood.
That will not be the case in any state lost by Harris during this election, so Harris is leaning into backing Senate and House recounts.
Even so, her campaign is raising money for a “recount account,” so she is driving donations under a false pretense, in my opinion.
Now, I called out Donald Trump for this during the early stages of his campaign because, at the time, the majority of his campaign money was going to pay for his legal fees.
My problem was that this was clearly not being told to donors, which I did not think was fair.
Democrats also attacked Trump on this front, but now Harris is doing the same thing, so I am curious to see how all this plays out.
Harris got herself into debt by blowing all her campaign funds over the last two weeks on negative Trump ads rather than pushing policy.
Then, even though the coffers will empty, she spent a reported $20 million on election eve concerts and celebrity endorsements at her events.
I am sure Harris figured that she would win the race, and she could then continue to raise funds for her 2028 race, paying off that additional debt without any problems.
But Harris lost, and now she owes another $20 million to vendors, so she is sending out fundraising emails for a recount account so she can pay off these debts.
The campaign website claims, “With a handful of key Senate and House races still too close to call, we are keeping our organizers and volunteers on the ground in those states to see the election across the finish line.
“If you are able, please donate to the Harris Fight Fund today to ensure we have the resources to elect Democrats down the ticket ready to hold the Trump administration accountable.”
Now, there is, unfortunately, nothing illegal about fundraising in this manner, but illegal and unethical are two different things here.
I would also note that in elections where recounts are needed, politicians and their state party will cover the campaign costs, so there is no need for Harris to chip in on this.
This is fraud, in my eyes, but I am sure the mainstream media will give Harris a pass, even though she just handed Donald Trump the biggest win for Republicans in decades.
