Haley and Pompeo Will Not Be Serving in Trump Administration
It took some time, but after Nikki Haley dropped out of the race, she did finally endorse Donald Trump.
Haley had previously served as Trump’s UN Ambassador, so some thought that as a peace offering, Trump would ask her to serve in his administration again, as well as former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
However, Trump announced this weekend that neither of them would be offered a position.
Not This Time
Haley and Trump were never completely on the same page, but that did not stop Trump from offering her a post in his first administration.
At the time, many believed Haley was being set up for a big run for president in 2024 if Trump won in 2020, and this was even more so when Haley decided to leave her post early.
Pompeo and Trump got along fine, and he served as Secretary of State until Trump left office. As far as I know, there was no bad blood between the two men.
While a presidential run is unlikely for Pompeo in 2028, Haley surely has aspirations, which is likely why Trump is not offering her a high-profile post, or any post, for that matter.
As far as Pompeo goes, I think Trump is setting everything up for Vance to run and have staffers in place in 2028, but there is one other thing that I will get to in just a second.
To that point, Trump announced that neither Pompeo nor Haley would be in his second administration.
On Saturday, Trump explained, “I will not be inviting former Ambassador Nikki Haley, or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, to join the Trump Administration, which is currently in formation.
“I very much enjoyed and appreciated working with them previously, and would like to thank them for their service to our Country.”
I will take a shot regarding the rejection of Pompeo that goes back to a post on X by Pompeo after the GOP got it handed to them in the 2022 midterms.
Pompeo posted, “We were told we’d get tired of winning. But I’m tired of losing. And so are most Republicans.”
Regardless of what Pompeo had done for Trump or the loyalty shown to that point or after, that is about all it takes to get on Trump’s bad side and the bad side of MAGA.
