Groom Fighting Over Estate of Wife Killed on Wedding Day

The sad story of Samantha Miller, 34, and Aric Hutchinson, 36, continues, now turning into a family squabble over money.

Miller and Hutchinson were wed on April 28, ready to start their new life together.

Only moments after taking a picture leaving their wedding reception in Folly Beach, SC, the golf cart they were riding in was struck by a drunk driver.

Now Miller’s mother is fighting Hutchinson over Miller’s estate, even challenging the validity of the marriage.

Family Feud

Miller and Hutchinson had just departed from the wedding reception, traveling in a golf cart, when Jamie Lee Komoroski, 26, allegedly struck them with her car, three times over the legal limit.

Miller was killed in the accident, and Hutchinson was severely injured.

While Miller’s mother has been supportive of Hutchinson in the past, she is now challenging him as executor of her daughter’s will as well as the legitimacy of the marriage.

Make no mistake about it, as this is all about the money from settlements that were reached with Miller’s estate in a wrongful death lawsuit.

The Crab Shack and The Drop In Bar & Deli, as well as the Progressive Northern Insurance Co., settled for allowing Komoroski to become “visibly intoxicated” before leaving the bar and getting behind the wheel of her car.

While the settlements have not been made public, it is reasonable to assume they are quite substantial considering the circumstances.

Lisa Miller, Samantha’s mother, says that Hutchinson is shutting her out, stating, “Aric and I agreed several times that Sam would want us to do everything together given we're the two most important people in her life.

“I never wanted to challenge the validity of the marriage. I never wanted to dishonor Sam.

“But I feel like Aric is dishonoring my daughter in going against her wishes.”

Jerry Meehan, Miller’s attorney, says that Hutchinson is making a clear “money grab” here.

Hutchinson claims that he offered to split everything with his wife’s mother and the challenge regarding the legitimacy of the marriage is nothing but a distraction.

The mother is questioning the legality of the marriage based on the date when the license was filed and who filed it for Hutchinson (he was in the hospital at the time).

Hard to imagine going through something like this only to have family members fighting over money.
