Greene Turns Up Heat Against Johnson and Motion to Vacate

Speaker Johnson (R-LA) seems to be destined to suffer the same fate as Speaker Emeritus Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).

That would be as long as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has anything to say about it.

After a week of frustration in the House, Greene has renewed her talk regarding the motion to vacate being floored against Johnson.

Democrat Bidding

One of the reasons that McCarthy was removed from office was because of the legislation he floored.

Johnson is facing the same criticism, especially after putting a $1.2 trillion spending bill on the floor in the House with less than 72 hours to review, a major sticking point for the Freedom Caucus.

Johnson has also been adamant that he will bring Ukraine aid to the floor very soon, which has caused a major uproar in the GOP caucus.

Greene sent a letter out to her fellow Republicans this week to call out Johnson for pushing the Democrat agenda through in the House.

In part, her letter stated, “I will not tolerate our elected Republican Speaker Mike Johnson serving the Democrats and the Biden administration and helping them achieve their policies that are destroying our country.

“This has been a complete and total surrender to, if not complete and total lockstep with, the Democrats’ agenda that has angered our Republican base so much and given them very little reason to vote for a Republican House majority.”

Johnson has recognized Greene’s frustration in the past, stating, “I think all of my other Republican colleagues recognize this is a distraction from our mission.

“She’s very frustrated about, for example, the last appropriations bills.”

I understand both points here, but Johnson appears to be making the same mistake that McCarthy made in terms of taking this threat seriously.

Johnson is banking on Democrats not backing this motion, but Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) has already proven he prefers chaos in the party when he can encourage it, as he easily could have blocked the McCarthy removal.

If Johnson does not do something to appease Greene soon, she will surely move forward and if she is successful, I think conservatives can kiss control of the House goodbye in the 2024 election cycle.
