Governor Youngkin Tells School To Sever Ties To CCP

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, a Republican, recently had to ask one of his public school systems to do something that should have never needed to be asked about:

Sever ties to Chinese Communist Party-lined entities.

What's shocking about this is that he wasn't talking to some liberal elite private school with ties to the CCP, it was the Fairfax County Public Schools system.

"I am requesting that you direct schools within your division to cut ties with CCP-linked partners," Youngkin's administration wrote.

Virginia Education Secretary Aimee Rogstad Guidera said that "The news that Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST) and the TJHSST Partnership Fund (Fund) have accepted significant financial contributions from entities known to have connections with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) raises significant concerns."

Guidera added that she has directed "the Virginia Department of Education to investigate CCP linkages to school systems across the Old Dominion." According to Breitbart, she also "demanded answers to how much money was accepted from Chinese entities, how the money has been used, if the entities have attempted to influence curriculum content or instruction, various materials provided to the entities, and if any private student information was provided to them."

One high school in Fairfax County, Virginia, has reportedly received over $1,000,000 in funding from Chinese interests in return for helping to develop similar schools in China.

Surprisingly, the Fairfax County Public Schools defended their ties to the communists:

"It is not unusual for elite public schools, colleges, and universities in the U.S. to benefit from donations and grants from various sources, including international sources."

Glenn Youngkin did not agree.
