GOP Wins Two House Seats in Special Election
The GOP just managed to give itself a little extra cushion in regard to the House majority.
Republicans managed to snag two congressional seats that were up for grabs in special elections that were held on the same night as the New Hampshire primary.
The GOP majority now extends to 200-195, with Independents holding three seats and there still being two vacancies to fill.
Tight Numbers
Needless to say, the New Hampshire GOP was ecstatic over the outcome of the election, celebrating on X.
The NH House GOP posted, “Congratulations Representatives-Elect Sean Durkin and Mike Murphy.
“Coos County spoke loud and clear last night and are sending two champions to Concord to protect and expand the New Hampshire Advantage[.] We look forward to welcoming our newest members to Representatives Hall soon.
“Huge win for Republicans in New Hampshire by FLIPPING this seat and adding to our GOP majority!
“Granite Staters continue to reject Joe Biden and his state allies.”
Honestly, I was hoping to get a bit more information from the New Hampshire primary than we were given, but the outlook for the general election still looks fuzzy for Trump.
He has a solid hook on the MAGA contingent of the party, but there are now about 30 percent of Republicans who say they will not pull the handle for Trump regardless.
If we look at the contingent of independent voters that voted for Haley over Trump, this could be a real problem in a general election.
If the GOP does not win the White House, it has to either take back the Senate or maintain its majority in the House. If not, Biden would have complete control of the government, which would be an utter disaster.
While I do not think Haley can beat Trump, I am hoping she stays in the race through Super Tuesday solely so we can get a better read on how various demographics will vote in the general election.
