When the GOP got in bed with Donald Trump in 2016, they surely never envisioned what is happening today.
Democrats have and continue to pull out all the stops in an effort to defeat Trump.
The former and future hopeful president has a stack of indictments and possibly more to come, which has forced the GOP's hand on the Biden administration's weaponization of the justice system, reports The Federalist.
All In
One of the reasons I was so surprised that so many GOP leaders backed Trump so early was because of all the legal problems he is facing right now.
Legit or not, they have to be dealt with and the thought of having a nominee in an orange jumpsuit was enough to make me think people would have shied away from Trump, but they embrace him more with each indictment, including much of the GOP leadership.
It is quite clear that Biden has weaponized this DOJ, and Trump being the leader of the party right now gives the GOP no option but to make this a top agenda issue in the upcoming election.
When Trump found out he was the target of yet another grand jury investigation, he posted, "Deranged Jack Smith, the prosecutor with Joe Biden's DOJ, sent a letter … stating that I am a TARGET of the January 6th Grand Jury investigation, and giving me a very short 4 days to report to the Grand Jury, which almost always means an Arrest and an Indictment."
Federalist Legal Correspondent Margot Cleveland stated, "Smith will be hard-pressed to concoct a crime Trump committed related to Jan. 6, with the former president's speech constitutionally protected and his legal theories, even if flawed, insufficient to create criminal liability."
I still cannot get over the case by Bragg, which I have said all along should have been a fine and a slap on the wrist, and it would have were the subject anyone other than Trump.
Instead, Bragg stacked the ledger entries to create dozens of felony charges, which just shows the lengths these people will go to stop this man.
While I am surprised the GOP continues to embrace Trump, I also have to believe that they are confident Trump will get out of this relatively unscathed because their careers and reputations are just as much on the line as Trump's.
In the meantime, we are truly seeing just how evil the government machine can be when it is turned on someone.
