GOP to Use Leverage to Try to Block Trump Prosecutions

Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA) has a plan to help Trump get out of these indictments.

He believes that the GOP can leverage funding for the DOJ against the overall budget, reports Fox News.

With a dozen spending bills to come across the desk of the House Appropriations Committee, it will be interesting to see if he can pull this off, but it is unlikely.

Defunding

That seems to be the buzzword for this year's political season, as the GOP House is talking about stripped funds from numerous areas that they believe are overreaching, reported The Hill.

Clyde believes the Trump indictments fall into that category.

He stated, "Americans' hard-earned tax dollars have no place funding the radical Left's nefarious election interference efforts.

"Together, Jack Smith, Alvin Bragg, and Fani Willis intentionally brought four sham indictments against the sitting president's top political opponent, President Donald J. Trump, as the upcoming 2024 presidential election ramps up."

He later added, "The American people get to decide who wins the White House — not Deep State actors who have shamelessly attacked Donald Trump since he announced his first bid in 2015. It is imperative that Congress use its power of the purse to protect the integrity of our elections, restore Americans' faith in our government, and dismantle our nation's two-tiered system of justice.

"I'm fully committed to helping lead this effort, and I call on my House Appropriations colleagues to join me in this righteous fight."

The problem, of course, is that his legislation has absolutely no chance of ever passing.

The GOP is holding only a minor edge in the House. Democrats control the Senate, so there is little to no chance the legislation would make it through.

On the off chance they could get it through the Senate, Joe Biden will never sign it.

So, for someone who talks about wasting American taxpayer dollars, that is exactly what Clyde is doing by pushing forward with this legislation.

It's a headline grab, a talking point, but that is about where it ends. I would much rather have him concentrate on exposing Biden's corruption so if we get control in 2024, we can prosecute the man.
