GOP Senator Rips Secret Service Director for ‘Celebrating Herself’ at RNC

The gloves, as they say, are off.

Secret Service Director Kimbery Cheatle was at the RNC this week enjoying some free food and drink at one of the sponsored hospitality suites.

Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) called her out to her face, then helped chase her out of the room and throughout the convention because she would not answer their questions.

Holding Her Accountable

With every passing day, we learn more disturbing facts about the Secret Service coverage given to Donald Trump during his rally.

Senator Blackburn wanted answers from Director Cheatle as to why there were so many protocol breakdowns, but Cheatle wanted nothing to do with her.

If you have not yet seen the video of Cheatle being approached by a group of GOP Senators at the convention, check this out…

After the fact, Blackburn stated, "Director Cheatle can run, but she can’t hide. If she has time to sweet-talk folks in a luxury suite at the RNC, she has time to answer how the Secret Service’s failures resulted in President Trump’s near-assassination.

"The last thing she should be doing is celebrating herself while rank-and-file agents are working around the clock to provide security in Milwaukee."

Blackburn is among those who are pushing for answers or resignation, but Cheatle has given them neither at this point.

But, her office did respond to the calls for resignation, stating, "Continuity of operations is paramount during a critical incident and U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has no intentions to step down.

“She deeply respects members of Congress and is fiercely committed to transparency in leading the Secret Service through the internal investigation and strengthening the agency through lessons learned in these important internal and external reviews."

Based on what I saw in the aftermath of the shooting, the agency may be better served to go rudderless than having Cheatle continue to call the shots.
