GOP Senator Overrules Schumer Effort to Block McCormick from Senate Orientation

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) is using his final few days in power as a thorn in the side of Republicans.

To that point, Schumer did not invite incoming Senator-elect McCormick (R-PA) to Senate orientation.

No problem, said Senator Mike Lee (R-UT), who has now offered to personally escort McCormick to the orientation session.

Get Out of Our Way

The Associated Press and several other networks have called the race for Senator in PA.

However, some major networks have not yet called the race, so Senator Schumer decided not to invite McCormick to the orientation day.

This has clearly angered the GOP and some other members of the Senate, but Senator Lee has decided to take matters into his own hands.

The outrage over Schumer not inviting McCormick was not just from the GOP side of the aisle.

Senator Sinema (I-AZ), stated, “In 2018 my race wasn’t called for 6 days. I jumped on a redeye to DC to make Senate orientation — I learned so much & made lasting relationships that week. Dave McCormick & Ruben Gallego will be senators for PA & AZ. They should be invited to orientation & start learning the job.”

Schumer’s office responded, “With over 100,000 ballots left to be counted in Pennsylvania, the race has not been decided. As is custom, we will invite the winner once the votes are counted.”

The race is over, and this is just Democrats throwing a fit, but Senator Lee was unwilling to give Schumer his moment of defiance.

Lee stated, "I’m willing to personally escort @DaveMcCormickPA into the Capitol for new-senator orientation. I’d like to see how they’d keep him out if he literally walked into ‘the room where it happens.’"

Several other Republican Senators backed the play.

Schumer caved on Tuesday morning, announcing, “Ruben Gallego and David McCormick have been invited to attend orientation.”

Gallego’s race against Kari Lake was also called, just not by all outlets, even though it was clear that Lake had no path to victory.

If no outlets had called the races or there were clear paths to victory for their opponents, I would get it, but these races were clearly over, proving once again that while they claim differently, the Dems are clearly not the adults in the room.
