GOP Senator flips on Trump, wants to work with him now

During the 2024 election, Senator Todd Young (R-IN) wanted nothing to do with Donald Trump.

Now, however, since Trump has won, Young is changing his tune.

Young has since stated that he wants to work with Trump and be a team player.

Can We Talk

Young is no dummy, and he knows what happens when you fight against Trump on a GOP ticket.

If that is the case, you are likely to find yourself getting primaried, and you will likely lose.

The number of candidates who have survived a Trump attack can be counted on both hands, so the odds are not in their favor.

To that point, Young is looking to be Trump’s buddy now, stating, “I've demonstrated that I can be an independent voice and an independent vote, but I've also demonstrated … that I'm an excellent team player.”

Young, who is not up for re-election until 2028, later added, "In the event that I have a question about something the president's done, I think we owe him a measure of discretion.

"And then we owe him and his team private counsel before we opine publicly in this era of social media."

I hate to say it, but I trust people like this about as far as I can throw them. I doubt there is any conservative writer who has been tougher on Trump than myself, but I also applaud and support the man when he does something good. I would like to think I am being fair, reasonable, and most importantly, holding him accountable to We the People.

Young more than likely did not think Trump could win, so he wanted to distance himself, but now he is sucking up to Trump to protect his seat.

The difference between us is that I am here to hold people accountable, all of them, regardless of the letter after their name. Young was trying to make himself look like a standup guy in the eyes of moderates, but now he is caving because he knows if he does not cower to Trump, he will likely lose his seat.

So, no, I don’t trust someone like that. I would advise Trump to keep his distance in terms of loyalty, but use Young to get policy passed when needed. But I would not show him any backing whatsoever.

Let the voters make that call on their own based on his record heading into the 2028 primary season.
