GOP Majority Razor Thin After Trump Raids Congress for Appointments

After Donald Trump’s election win, he started to pull members of Congress for nominations.

The majority was already thin for the GOP, sitting at 220-215.

Now, however, that majority has been reduced to 217-215, and Trump is far from done.

Razor Thin

We all know that at least one or two Republicans were going to get pulled and added to Donald Trump’s administration.

After Trump won, I expressed significant concern on this front and stated that it would be far wiser for Trump to leave Congress alone and fill his cabinet with people outside of the House and Senate.

Instead, Trump started to pluck his loyal members, and now the majority is so thin, that once Trump’s term begins, that majority is likely to be reduced to a single vote.

Point being, until these special elections are completed, which will not likely be until the spring, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has no room for error.

CNN’s senior political data reporter Harry Enten seemed a bit shocked that Trump has allowed himself to be put in this position.

He stated, “Yes. The Republicans are going to control the House of Representatives but if all the current results hold up, we’re looking at a record small majority [...] in the last 90 years.

“You have to go all the way back since the Herbert Hoover administration to find an even smaller majority at the November elections.”

He added, “The bottom line is, look, the results from the November elections weren’t exactly good for Democrats but this is a shining light for them.

“They really did hold the Republican majority down. And given the likely resignations that are coming, that House of Representatives for the Republicans, that House majority is going to be record, record small.”

Some believe I am making much ado about nothing because these states are in red districts, but I never take anything for granted.

When it comes to the majority, I would rather play it safe than risk turning over the majority due to some surprising upsets in special elections.

Again, I just hope got this right because if he did not, his entire presidency is at risk.
