GOP Leaders Call For All Information Related to Special Counsel David Weiss

Republican lawmakers demanded Monday copies of communications related to the appointment of David Weiss as special counsel in the investigation of Hunter Biden.

Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Weiss early in August despite connections between Weiss and Hunter Biden's late brother and was involved in the case for five years.

“It is not clear why you have only now, after the investigation has been going on for five years, opted to appoint Mr. Weiss as special counsel, especially after you and the Department represented that Mr. Weiss already had ‘ultimate’ authority over the case,” House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) wrote Monday in a letter.

“Since the early days of its investigation concerning Hunter Biden, DOJ has deviated from its standard investigative procedure and afforded Hunter Biden special privileges not afforded to other Americans," he added.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) also spoke out on X about the coming investigation of Weiss.

"We will be demanding that Special Counsel David Weiss must come to Congress and testify under oath on the investigation into the Biden Crime Family," Gaetz posted.

"Weiss's appointment is just the next step in the cover-up after the sweetheart plea deal didn't work," he continued.

Weiss was also involved in the effort to push for Hunter Biden's plea deal earlier this year. The deal fell apart in court after the judge denied language in the agreement that could be applied to future charges.

The plea deal included two charges related to tax evasion and one gun charge that would have kept Hunter Biden from spending any time in jail.

The latest investigation now looks to find more details on how Weiss became Hunter Biden's special counsel despite family connections with the Bidens.
