GOP House Members Responsible for Bannon Going to Jail
When Steve Bannon was served a subpoena to testify before the January 6 Select Committee, he refused.
That defiance wound up with a House referral to the DOJ to hold him in contempt.
It would appear that the state is being set for Trump to exact some revenge on Republicans who voted in favor of holding Bannon in contempt.
They Did It
There were a total of nine Republicans in the House at the time who voted in favor of the referral.
They were Adam Kinzinger, Anthony Gonzalez, John Katko, Nancy Mace, Jaime Herrera Beutler, Brian Fitzpatrick, Fred Upton, Peter Meijer, and Liz Cheney.
Most of those people are now out of Congress and doing their thing in the media, but there are a few stragglers who remain.
Trump’s surrogates have often stated that if Trump gets back into office, his enemies will pay, and I would have to imagine the names on that list are among those that will be targeted.
Bannon was convicted in 2022, and sentenced to four months in jail, but his sentence had been delayed during the appeals process.
Even though Bannon is still litigating his appeals, the court decided that it was time for Bannon to serve his sentence.
So, on July 1, Bannon reported to a low-security facility in Connecticut to start to serve his term.
As Bannon reported to serve his time, he stated, "I'm proud of going to prison today.
"I have not only no regrets, I'm proud of what I did."
He later added, “I've served my country now for the last 10 or so years focusing on this.
“If I have to do it in a prison, I do it in a prison - it makes no difference at all.”
Bannon had made a last-minute emergency appeal to have the sentence delayed on the grounds that he was Trump’s campaign adviser, but that motion fell on deaf ears.
So, for now, Bannon will be silenced until just a few days before the election.
