GOP House Fails to Expel Rep. Santos from Congress

After our new Speaker was elected, the resolutions that had been tabled were finally able to be put on the floor for a vote.

At the top of the list was the censure of Rep. Tlaib (D-MI) for her anti-Semitic and pro-Palestine comments on Israel.

Also on the docket was the expelling of Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) from Congress.

Both measures failed.

Bad Day for Republicans

I honestly thought Tlaib being censured was automatic, but there were even MAGA members who voted against it on the premise that Rep. Greene (R-GA) had apparently made up “facts” to put into her resolution.

For instance, Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) stated, "Rep. Rashida Tlaib has repeatedly made outrageous remarks toward Israel and the Jewish people. Her conduct is unbecoming of a member of Congress and certainly worthy of condemnation - if not censure.

"However, tonight’s feckless resolution to censure Tlaib was deeply flawed and made legally and factually unverified claims, including the claim of leading an ‘insurrection'…I voted to table the resolution.

“In January 2021, the legal term insurrection was stretched and abused by many following the events at the Capitol. We should not continue to perpetuate claims of 'insurrection' at the Capitol and we should not abuse the term now."

The two of them then proceeded to argue on X like a couple of petulant children.

The expelling of Santos also failed, which I found remarkable.

Some of the Democrats who did not support the measure cited due process before a decision should be made on this, but that is utterly ridiculous.

This man was elected with a completely fabricated resume. Serving in Congress is NOT a right, but a privilege, and he, at least in my eyes, lost that privilege when he lied to his constituents.

For me, this has nothing at all to do with the 23-count indictment on various fraud charges and everything to do with his dishonesty.

This man is an embarrassment and I simply cannot believe there were not enough GOP members of the caucus to support expelling him.

It is yet another black eye for this GOP-run House that continues to let We the People down.
