GOP congressional hopeful demands resignation of Alejandro Mayorkas

As controversy continues to swirl around the immigration policies of the Biden administration, a Republican congressional candidate from Virginia is now calling on Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to step down from his position, as Breitbart explains.

Running for the 7th Congressional District seat currently held by Democrat Abigail Spanberger, Republican Cameron Hamilton made his case concerning Mayorkas' future during an interview with Matthew Boyle of Breitbart News Saturday.

Speaking from experience

Rather than simply parroting a partisan talking point about the border crisis, Hamilton's take on Mayorkas stems from his own first-hand experience with the Biden administration's immigration policies and the calamities they have engendered.

Following time spent as a Navy SEAL, Hamilton went on to work inside DHS, overseeing thousands of Emergency Medical Technicians who were positioned along the country's southern border.

Based in large part on what he witnessed during that tenure, Hamilton now says that the Biden years have been characterized by an unfortunate “regression” of the successes achieved during the Trump administration in terms of slowing the influx of migrants into the U.S., and he lamented the reversal of policies such as “Remain-in-Mexico.”

“Public trust” violated

During his conversation with Boyle, Hamilton opined that the border crisis has grown so dire that a change of leadership at the top of the DHS hierarchy is necessary.

Hamilton said, “What I'm asking for is for Secretary Mayorkas to resign because of his violation of public trust.”

The Republican noted that from the beginning of Biden's tenure in office, migrants have been under the impression that they can come into the United States at will, be welcomed with open arms, and face little resistance to remaining in the country indefinitely.

Potentially pivotal race

Currently engrossed in his campaign to oust Spanberger in 2024, Hamilton suggests that his race could be indicative of wider trends across the country.

The 7th District, Hamilton contends, will be something of a national bellwether next November, in that its boundaries encompass rural as well as urban parts of the state.

Some of Hamilton's top priorities, according to his campaign website, are issues such as limited government, balanced budgets, federal debt reduction, and educational quality.

The Republican has emphasized his belief in the need for stronger enforcement at the border, making his outspoken stance on Mayorkas' continued leadership of DHS all the more relevant as he works to win the support of his fellow Virginians.
