Never one to run from the limelight, Senate spouse Gisele Fetterman – wife of Pennsylvania lawmaker John Fetterman – found her way into a bit of controversy this week when she seemed to endorse a radical worldview that many would find offensive at the very least, as the Daily Caller explains.
The kerfuffle emerged in response to commentary offered by Fox News personality Laura Ingraham in the aftermath of Wednesday's Republican presidential primary debate, and it put the spotlight on Mrs. Fetterman's notoriously unorthodox approach.
Speaking her mind
Rendering her take on the differences between the overall philosophies of Republican candidates and Democratic candidates, respectively, Ingraham characterized the latter viewpoint as centered on “pot, porn, Planned Parenthood.”
While Ingraham's message surely resonated with large segments of her audience, mainstream media pundits sneered at her remarks and, as the Caller's Gage Klipper opined, “used the typical gas-lighting ploy of 'it's not happening, but it's good that it is.'”
Gisele Fetterman stepped up to the plate in that respect, taking to X (formerly known as Twitter) to engage in her own bit of mockery at Ingraham's expense.
“Pot, porn, Planned Parenthood? I'm in,” quipped the senator's wife.
Lightning rod spouse
Last week's foray into public discourse was by no means the first time Mrs. Fetterman has made headlines for all the wrong reasons.
Not long after her stroke-impaired husband won his seat in the upper chamber in the 2022 midterm contests, Gisele Fetterman staged a photo outside of his office-to-be, one which drew criticism from all corners, as Fox News noted at the time.
The image was deemed an extremely odd one for the occasion, given that the senator himself was partially cropped out of the frame, something which prompted many to accuse his wife of an astounding degree of self-involvement and cringeworthy vanity.
Critics suggested that the photo was the perfect embodiment of someone who had previously been accused of pushing her husband – who was clearly having difficulty recovering from the aforementioned stroke – to continue his Senate campaign in order to further her own ambitions.
Conservative commentator Tiana Lowe Doescher wrote at the time, “The actual Senator-elect is halfway cut out of the photo!!!” adding of Giselle Fetterman, “[s]he wanted this so badly for herself lol.”
Doescher continued, “I hope subjecting her husband and her marriage to this was worth her 15 minutes,” a prize that, judging from her recent snarky engagement on social media, is something she is still aggressively pursuing.
