Gere Flips Off Guthrie on Live TV

Actor Richard Gere caused a bit of a dust-up during a recent “Today” show interview.

Guthrie had aired a clip from Gere’s new show, but the clip was cut short.

So, Gere decided to show here the most important part of the clip, him flipping the bird.

You Can’t Do That!

Gere, like many aging big-name actors, is going the streaming route these days.

Platforms are paying big bucks to big names to get them to star in streaming shows to lure in more subscribers.

In this case, Gere is starring in a Paramount+/Showtime series called “The Agency.”

Guthrie had just introduced a clip from the show, an intense scene with Gere, where he apparently flips off the individual he was speaking to.

However, the clip was cut short, so Gere flipped off Guthrie, who seemed mortified by the gesture.

Gere responded, “You didn’t show but that’s what I did in the piece! That’s what the clip was!”

Guthrie responded, “That’s what the clip was, but we cut that part out. But then you did it live!”

Gere then tried to defend himself again, stating, “I could see that but it didn’t make any sense without that!”

Gere may have taken his cue from Cher, who was on the show earlier in the week, dropping an F-bomb that the show was unable to bleep out.

Cher was discussing her marriage to Sony Bono, who she claimed robbed her blind.

She explained how she had called Lucille Ball for advice, having been in a similar showbusiness marriage.

Cher had asked Lucille what she should do, with Cher stating,  “She said, ‘F–k him, you’re the one with the talent.’”

Gere strikes me as someone who hates doing these shows but knows they are a necessary evil.

He also knows that the gesture got him more coverage than he ever would have received.

After all, here he is being mentioned on a political blog that would normally never cover such an interview had he followed the rules.
