One of the extreme abortion laws in a red state has been struck down.
On Wednesday, the Georgia Supreme Court overruled a lower court ruling that would have completely banned abortions.
With the ruling, at least for now, abortions are permitted in Georgia for up to six weeks.
Red State Stunner
Many red states in this country have completely outlawed abortion.
This is an extreme stance that many feel has gone too far.
The overwhelming majority of Americans would like to see abortions allowable with restrictions.
This would be restrictions on how long as well as exceptions for the mother’s health being at risk, cases of assault, and cases of incest.
Realistically, these more extreme laws have little chance of holding up when being challenged in court.
The order on Wednesday blocked the Georgia law banning abortions, but Georgia’s Attorney General Chris Carr has already announced that the ruling will be appealed.
Personally, I believe this matter should be put to the voters in each state with staged referendums on the ballot. It is the only fair way for states to put the will of their constituents into law.
At least then we can put this matter to rest and stop having the entire country polarized over the issue every time a lawmaker decides to gain political stature by bringing it up.
Otherwise, this is an issue that will continue to rip this country apart.
That is not to mention how it has become a favorite talking point of Democrats when the feel they are in trouble in elections.
Like immigration, I don’t think Democrats really want this issue to be settled because they would lose the ability to get everyone stirred up when they need to create momentum, as we saw in the 2020 cycle, where it was clearly more impactful in terms of election results than polling led us all to believe.
This was on election point that pre-election polls were woefully wrong.
