Gaetz Primary Challenger May Seek Vacated Seat

As most of you are aware, Donald Trump has announced that Matt Gaetz is his choice for attorney general.

Rather than waiting until he was confirmed, Gaetz resigned his seat, more than likely in an effort to avoid the Ethics Committee report that was due out on the allegations he had sex with prostitutes and underage girls.

Now Aaron Dimmock, who tried to primary Gaetz out of his seat, is considering running for the position in the special election.

Taking Off

Gaetz did not have to resign his seat, but he chose to do so, bringing up some serious questions if it was solely to avoid the Ethics Committee report.

Now, a lot of Republicans are objecting to the report being published since Gaetz is no longer in the House, but I believe, at the very least, the Senate Judiciary Committee needs to see that report.

That committee will vet the AG, and if there is something out there that could possibly hurt Gaetz, thereby impacting the Trump administration negatively, I would rather know about it now than have it come back to bite us later.

But that report could exonerate Gaetz. Either way, I think we need to know before Gaetz is confirmed.

That aside, his seat will have to be filled, and Dimmock, who got crushed by Gaetz in the primary, is considering another run.

He stated, “I am taking a serious look at it and have already received numerous calls from constituents imploring me to run.”

Dimmock lost 72.6-27.4% in the GOP primary race for the seat.

Speaker Johnson has helped cover for Gaetz, stating that he only resigned to allow the state to get the ball rolling on special elections so that they would not impact the next congressional session.

Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has been adamant that the probe into Gaetz would end his career, even backing Dimmock in the primary race.

This included a negative ad campaign launched by McCarthy’s PAC, which stated, “Your daughters are never safe with the real Matt Gaetz.”

I am not sure I take that quote seriously when you consider the landslide victory that Gaetz had in the primary race.

For me, the fact that McCarthy supported Dimmock is enough for me to look elsewhere.

As far as I am concerned, McCarthy is part of the Swamp, and I am glad he is out of the House.
