Freshman Senator Blisters Dems for Trying to Delay Hegseth Confirmation
While Donald Trump has made some solid nominations for his cabinet, he also has some very questionable names in the mix.
At the top of that list is former Fox News personality Pete Hegseth as the Secretary of Defense.
Hegseth does have military experience, but he was only a major, plus he has quite a bit of baggage, and Dems plan on fighting him every step of the way.
Stop Playing Games
Hegseth has had previous sexual misconduct allegations made against him, but legally speaking, nothing ever came of it.
More worrisome to me is the reputation Hegseth had at Fox News as a heavy drinker, someone who allegedly showed up to work regularly smelling of booze and hungover.
I am also concerned about his military experience.
As a major, he likely never led more than 200 troops, and now he will have millions under his control, not to mention a nearly $1 trillion annual budget.
I am not saying that he cannot step up, I just have others that I would prefer, but I am not the man making that call.
Senator Jim Banks (R-IN) knows that Dems want to take Hegseth down, so he is calling them out, stating, "As you are aware, Senators who are going to oppose the Hegseth nomination no matter what are seeking to delay and deny President Trump his Secretary of Defense being confirmed quickly.
“If they are successful, this will harm America’s national security during the crucial transition of power later this month.”
Banks made his comments after Senator Blumenthal (D-CT) had stated, "I am deeply concerned that the Senate Armed Services Committee is considering the nomination of Pete Hegseth for this critically significant position without full information regarding his capacity and experience to lead our military and steward a budget of nearly $850 billion.
"I do not see how this committee can, in good conscience, consider Mr. Hegseth's nomination without a full review of his conduct while leading these organizations - the only civilian management experience of his career."
While Dems are making a stink now, we should note that when Hegseth wanted to meet with Democrat Senators, the only one that took a meeting was Senator Fetterman (D-PA).
Hegseth could have addressed these concerns months ago if Democrats were not playing hardball.
This is a planned move and while I agree Hegseth needs to be heavily vetted, this gamesmanship serves no purpose whatsoever.
