Fox News has a real problem on its hands.
Ever since the network fired Tucker Carlson, it has been losing viewers hand over fist.
I can tell you from feedback from readers, a LOT of conservatives, and a significant number of MAGA supporters, are now looking elsewhere for their news.
Bad Times
The drop in ratings is far worse than I think anyone at Fox ever thought would happen. This could be the Bud Light of cable news.
When was the last time any network other than Fox took the number one spot on a consistent basis, especially in the key 9:00 p.m. Eastern time slot?
After Fox ousted Carlson, the network did a big shuffle, throwing Sean Hannity into the prime-time slot hoping that he could fill that void.
The problem for Fox News is that MAGA is not so keen on Hannity any longer and regular viewers have seemingly tired of him as well.
The result of this was MSNBC and Rachel Maddow crushing Hannity with 25 percent more viewers than Hannity pulled in (about 2.4 million to 1.95 million), reported TV Newser.
Even worse, Hannity is bleeding viewers at a rapid pace.
According to AdWeek, since March 2022, Hannity had averaged about three million viewers every night of the week. In June, that number was down to about two million. In July, he is averaging about 1.7 million.
So, Hannity has lost roughly 43 percent of his regular viewers in recent months.
Overall, Fox News is still the number one outlet, but the competition is rapidly catching up since Tucker Carlson has been let go.
Just look at these numbers reported by TV Newser: “Fox News lost 32 percent of its prime-time viewers, 58 percent of viewers in the primetime demographic, 21 percent in daytime viewers, and 41 percent in total day demographic viewers as compared to the week of July 11, 2022.”
Like Bud Light, Fox News suffered a stock hit after the departure of Tucker Carlson, but bargain hunters saved the day, with the stock eventually recouping its April prices.
Some of the ratings dip may have to do with the summer season, as more people are on vacation, but that would not account for the totality of the drop.
Fox News better figure something out soon because Tucker is about to get back on the air and when he does, you better believe Fox is going to take another hit.
