Another rock icon is gone…
Randy Meisner, a founding member of the Eagles, passed away this week at age 77, reported Fox News.
Meisner's signature song was "Take It to the Limit," a song that has been on most of our lips for decades.
A Legend is Gone
I don't know about you guys, but the Eagles are one of my all-time favorite bands.
When they released their farewell tour schedule and Texas was not on it, I was livid, especially considering Don Henley is based out of Texas.
The Eagles are one of those rare groups where multiple members take turns at lead vocals, with Meisner singing "Take It to the Limit."
This song was actually partially to blame for Meisner leaving the band in 1977.
The song has several key high notes, and during a tour, Meisner was not feeling well and wanted out of the song because he was worried about hitting those notes.
He ended up getting into a huge argument with several of the other band members, eventually getting frozen out, so he called it quits.
Meisner stated, "That was the end. . . I really felt like I was a member of the group, not a part of it." He formally left the band on September 3, 1977, after a performance in East Troy, Wisconsin.
During a 1981 interview, Meisner stated, "I could have tripled my money if I'd stayed.
"But I was just tired of the touring. It's a crazy life that you live at twice the normal speed. When it got to the point of sanity or money ... I thought I'd rather have sanity."
Meisner has had medical problems for years, even declining an appearance with the Eagles several years ago citing those issues.
His death was caused by complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, reported the Eagles on their Facebook page.
Rest in peace, Randy. And thank you for the amazing music over the years.
