Former White House Adviser Refuses to Comply with Subpoena
Well, we have a rather interesting situation developing that we had warned about when Democrats went after Trump's advisers for contempt of Congress.
Andrew Slavitt, a former Biden administration COVID-19 adviser, has defied a House subpoena.
This is the very same situation that former Trump adviser Peter Navarro was referred to the Department of Justice for and charged with contempt of Congress.
According to the report, Slavitt did not comply per instructions from the White House.
Rules for Thee
If everyone remembers, Democrats were livid when Donald Trump instructed his former staffers not to comply with subpoenas, and that would include Joe Biden.
Let me go back to October 2021, when Biden was talking to CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, she asked Biden for his message to Trump staffers and operatives who defied their congressional subpoenas.
Biden responded, “I hope that the committee goes after them and holds them accountable.”
She then asked Biden if they should be prosecuted by the DOJ, and he responded, “I do, yes.”
Slavitt is front and center regarding Berenson v. Biden, a suit filed by Alex Berenson, a SubStack journalist, who was censored.
This particular subpoena, however, was issued by the House Judiciary Committee.
The White House reportedly told Slavitt that he need not worry about being prosecuted.
Richard Sauber, a White House lawyer, sent the notice to Slavitt telling him not to appear.
He wrote, “The Department has advised me of its position that Mr. Slavitt cannot be prosecuted for contempt of Congress, punished through the use of any inherent congressional contempt authority, or held liable in a civil enforcement action for failing to appear at his scheduled deposition.”
So, it would appear that we, yet again, have a case of “Rules for Thee, Not for Me.”
