Former Trump Staffer Wins Texas State House Primary Race

Donald Trump loves Texas, as some of his biggest allies in the Republican Party are from the state.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), Governor Greg Abbott, Attorney General Ken Paxton, and Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), just to name a few,  have been behind Trump from the start.

Trump may soon have another ally in the Texas legislature as well, with former campaign spokesperson Katrina Pierson having won her primary race.

Big Win

Pierson was chosen as someone to help Abbott and Paxton clean house in the state legislature of those who have fought Abbott and tried to impeach Paxton.

A handful of seats are up among Republicans, and the incumbents were being primaried by Abbott and Paxton allies.

Pierson was taking on Texas State Rep. Justin Holland.

Holland has been in office since 2017 and pushed back against Abbott’s school voucher program.

Abbott and Paxton both endorsed and campaigned with Pierson, so this is a big win for them, and, by default, a big win for Trump.

After the win, Paxton’s campaign account posted on X, “Congratulations to @KatrinaPierson for DEFEATING Austin RINO Justin Holland.

“You have sent a strong message to Austin that if members continue to prioritize Democrats over our Conservative Agenda they will not return in 2026.”

Abbott’s campaign posted, “Congratulations to @KatrinaPierson on an incredible VICTORY in her Republican Primary Runoff in House District 33! #txlege.”

Pierson worked for Donald Trump’s campaign in 2016, but declined a position as Deputy Press Secretary in his administration.

Instead, she went to work for America First Policies, a pro-Trump advocacy group, but the Trump campaign hired her back again in 2020 as an adviser.

Where she stands with Trump now remains to be seen, as a text she sent to then-Chief of Staff Mark Meadows was later revealed.

She had texted him, "[t]hings have gotten crazy and I desperately need some direction" before declaring "I'm done. I can't be a part of embarrassing POTUS any further."

Those texts were sent days before the January 6 rally that led to the Capitol riot, but I have to believe with Abbott and Paxton endorsing her, Pierson and Trump are back on good terms.
