Former Olympic Figure Skater Alexandra Paul Killed at 31

Former Canadian Olympic figure skating star Alexandra Paul was killed in a car accident at the age of 31.

The tragedy reportedly occurred in Ontario Tuesday when a truck plowed into multiple vehicles in a construction zone.

"The accident occurred Melancthon Township —70 miles north of Toronto — when an out of control truck plowed into a line up of seven vehicles in a construction zone, according to the Canadian Press," Breitbart News reported.

"Paul was pronounced dead on the scene, and her 10-month-old toddler didn’t suffer any life-threatening injuries, the New York Post reported.  Three other people were injured, including a 67-year-old man who was airlifted to the hospital," it added.

"During her career, she won a silver medal at the World Junior Figure Skating Championships in 2010 and represented Canada at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games," the BBC reported.

"Alongside her partner and husband, Mitchell Islam, she won multiple international medals before retiring from competitive skating in 2016," it continued.

Skate Canada also released a statement mourning her death.

"It is with a heavy heart that Skate Canada announces the sudden passing of a cherished member of our skating community, Alexandra Paul," it noted on X.

"Our thoughts are with Alexandra's family, friends, and everyone who was fortunate enough to know her," it continued.

The news of her passing has led to strong support from numerous fans online as the world has been shocked at her sudden death. The added news of her child surviving also adds to the surprise of the situation, with the family seeking to care for the infant while mourning the loss of Paul.
