Former Obama Official Says Some Sanctuary City Policies are Dangerous
Democrats learned a hard lesson over the last four years.
When Texas Governor Greg Abbott started to send migrants to Democrat sanctuary cities, it shined a spotlight on the immigration issues of this administration.
While Abbott took a lot of heat, we soon found out that Biden was secretly shipping far more illegals around the country to sanctuary cities... and they all seemed to pay a price for it.
Blocking Federal Agents
It was bad enough that Biden and Mayorkas opened up our borders, but Mayorkas decided to put current immigration laws on the back burner to personally decide who could stay and who would be deported.
Even though crossing the border illegally is a criminal offense, our laws deemed that anyone with a prior criminal record was supposed to be deported, especially for violent crimes.
Mayorkas decided that this was no longer the case, offering passes to some migrants with criminal records that would have previously resulted in automatic deportation.
Not only that, but many of the sanctuary cities in this country changed local laws to block local authorities from alerting ICE that they had an illegal in custody.
John Sandweg, who served as acting ICE Director under President Obama, stated that he believed policies such as this were going “too far” in the wrong direction.
He stated, “We saw a lot of this four years ago during the first Trump administration, and a lot of the mayors of the more progressive cities will come out and make bold statements about how they’re going to restrict immigration enforcement in their cities. They cannot stop federal agents from enforcing federal law in the city.
“So, that means if ICE wants to do a[n] area sweep where they go door-to-door in neighborhoods, generally speaking, because of the Supremacy Clause, the mayor can’t stop them.
“But where the mayors can be very impactful is in access to the jails. 90-95% of ICE’s interior arrests, currently, all come from prisons and jails, including state prisons and jails.”
He concluded, "Listen, some of these sanctuary policies went way too far, where you had convicted murderers being — where the locality would say, he’s a convicted murderer, but we’re not going to give you to ICE, even though he’s a foreign national. Obviously, those undermine public safety.”
Time and again, we see reports in the news of an illegal immigrant with a prior record of having attacked or killed someone, and all of these crimes are the fault of this administration.
We need to look no further than the case of Laken Riley, who would likely still be alive today were it not for the Biden administration’s policies and sanctuary cities.
As I have stated before, if something like this had happened to someone in my family, I would have filed a suit against the federal government and local officials before the body was in the ground.
The only way to stop these extreme policies is to hold these people accountable, and that starts at the top with Joe Biden and Secretary Mayorkas.
