Former Democrat VP Candidate Joe Lieberman Dead at 82
One of the biggest names in politics on the left side of the aisle has passed away.
Joe Lieberman, a long-time Senator and former VP candidate, has died.
He was 82 years old.
Last of the Moderates
According to his family, Lieberman recently suffered a fall and died due to complications that arose from that fall.
Lieberman first entered politics in 1971 as a member of the Connecticut Senate.
In 1983, he became the 21st Attorney General of Connecticut, serving until 1989.
Lieberman would parlay that post into a Senate seat in 1989, a seat he held until 2013, but not without some controversy.
As popular as Lieberman was, he lost his primary race before the 2006 election, so he became an independent and ran in the general election, winning the seat and shocking both parties.
In 2013, however, Lieberman made up with the Democrat Party and remained a member until his death this week.
During the 2000 campaign season, Lieberman was asked to serve on the Gore ticket as his vice president, the first practicing Jew to run as VP.
Lieberman had no problem crossing the aisle for any issue, which once included endorsing Senator John McCain (R-AZ) for president, mostly due to McCain’s stance on the war on terror.
More recently, Lieberman launched the No Labels party, hoping to create a party of moderates that would offer alternative candidates to the two major parties.
To really upset Democrats, Lieberman applauded the move by Donald Trump to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem in 2018.
There were plenty of condolences and memories being shared on social media, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu…
Sara and I grieve with Hadassah and the entire Leiberman family on the passing of our beloved Joe Leiberman.
Joe was an exemplary public servant, an American patriot and a matchless champion of the Jewish people and the Jewish state.
In my very first meeting with him…

Lieberman was what Joe Manchin pretends to be… a true moderate who was not afraid to walk across the aisle on any given issue.
Rest in peace, sir.
