Florida police use stun gun on Olympian Fred Kerley during arrest
Not only has an Olympian been arrested, police were forced to use a STUN GUN to take him down.
Fred Kerley, who won the silver medal in the 100-meter dash in the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 and the bronze in the Paris Olympics in 2024, has been arrested after becoming “increasingly aggressive” in Miami, Florida.
According to reports, the stun gun was fired after an incident relating to Kerley’s parked vehicle occurred.
Reports went on to say that when police asked Kerley to leave the area, he refused and prepared for a fight.
The exact phrase reported was that Kerley “assumed a fighting stance.”
That’s when police attempted to arrest Kerley for his actions at which point reports have said he allegedly resisted arrest.
Unfortunately for Kerley, police had no choice but to whip out the stun gun to take down the Olympic athlete.
Body cam footage of the arrest, however, shows Kerley in handcuffs saying he was not resisting arrest at all.
However, as of now, Kerley has been taken into custody on the “suspicion of battery of a police officer,” according to JustTheNews.com.
The sprinter is also facing allegations of disorderly conduct and resisting an officer.
Kerley’s defense attorney, Yale Sanford, has now released a statement to CNN News regarding the bodycam footage.
According to Sanford, he believes Kerley’s treatment was “obscene.”
“It just goes to show that no matter how hard you work, how many medals you earn for your country, and how many people across the globe you inspire, in Miami Beach, Mr. Kerley was treated like millions of African-Americans, male and female, around the country…with a lack of humanity, compassion, or respect,” Sanford said.
Since everything is simply allegations right now, it is almost guaranteed that we have not heard the last of this story.
Who do you think was wrong in this situation? Was Kerley unfairly treated because he's African-American, or did his actions warrant such consequences from the police?
Hopefully, the truth will come out in time.
