Federal judge allows Trump Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to access Treasury Department records

A federal judge in New York left intact a ban that prevents the Department of Government Efficiency from accessing Treasury Department records containing sensitive personal data but made some tweaks that are sure to benefit the Trump administration.

According to Newsmax, Judge Jeannette A. Vargas said Treasury Department officers nominated by Trump and confirmed by the Senate can access the records, making it clear that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is not subject to the ban.

Vargas was appointed by former President Joe Biden in 2024.

The original ban was put in place during the first week of February by U.S. District Judge Paul A. Engelmayer, who was appointed by Barack Obama.

Engelmayer's decision was in response to 19 Democrat attorneys general bringing a lawsuit against Donald Trump.

Representatives for America's Department of Justice argued to Jeannette Vargas that the ban was unconstitutional and should be immediately reversed.

The lawsuit brought forward by the 19 Democrats suggested that the Department of Government Efficiency, led by Elon Musk, should not have access to the information because DOGE is comprised of "political appointees."

Instead, those records should only be handled by "civil servants" who are "specially trained in protecting such sensitive information as Social Security and bank account numbers."

Justice Department attorneys argued against the ban, saying it was unconstitutional and a "remarkable intrusion on the Executive Branch."

"Basic democratic accountability requires that every executive agency's work be supervised by politically accountable leadership, who ultimately answer to the President," they said.

Liberals are terrified of the Department of Government Efficiency because liberals love big government, which is generally the exact opposite of efficient.

Many of these liberals depend on the government's frivolous pork-barrel spending to support their lifestyles, so it's no surprise that so many Democrats are up in arms about Trump's promise to make sure that American taxpayers' dollars are being put to good use.

Do you support what DOGE is doing so far, or do you disagree with Elon Musk having so much influence in America?
