FCC requiring CBS to hand over full transcript from Harris interview

If you recall, during the 2024 election, Donald Trump just about lost his mind after the “60 Minutes” interview with Kamala Harris aired, and for good reason.

The interview had been touted on social media with Harris’s answer regarding Israel’s war with Hamas.

However, when the interview aired, a completely different answer had been given, with Trump crying foul and demanding an investigation for election interference.

I’m in Charge Now

Harris was interviewed by Bill Whitaker, who had asked her if she thought Israel was not listening to the administration’s concerns about its war with Hamas.

In the teaser, Harris responded, “Well Bill, the work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by or a result of many things including our advocacy for what happens in the region.”

But, when the actual interview aired, her answer was, “We’re not gonna stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end.”

When “60 Minutes” was called out for the two different answers, it refused to give up the full transcript because the network was worried about its editing practices being scrutinized.

The show also responded, “60 Minutes gave an excerpt of our interview to Face the Nation that used a longer section of her answer than that on 60 Minutes. Same question. Same answer. But a different portion of the response.

“When we edit any interview, whether a politician, an athlete, or a movie star, we strive to be clear, accurate, and on point.

“The portion of her answer on 60 Minutes was more succinct, which allows time for other subjects in a wide-ranging 21-minute-long segment.”

Now that Trump is in office, the game has changed, with Trump’s FCC boss, Brendan Carr, compelling the network to turn over the unedited transcript to be examined.

As I have stated in other reports, editing down an answer is one thing, but if they were clearly helping Harris to be portrayed in a more positive light, Trump has a real case here.

Regardless, the American people really need to see how these editors work their magic to understand we are never seeing the authentic version of anyone in a taped interview.

No matter how this turns out for Trump, I cannot wait to see that transcript.
