The Israel-Hamas war has been front and center in this news cycle not only for the impact it is having on foreign policy but also due to the rising terror threat in our country.
To that point, the FBI recently stated that it has had to investigate more than 1,800 reports of threats or tips related to the Hamas terror attack on Israel.
As a result, the FBI now has more than 100 active investigations tied to that war.
Tips Coming In
After the Israel-Hamas war started, FBI Director Christopher Wray told Congress that he was worried about the rise of terror threats in this country, specifically about “lone wolf” actors who were sympathetic to the Hamas cause.
That, of course, got everyone’s ears up, and be it a legitimate threat or paranoia, people are reporting more tips to the FBI as a result.
Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco explained, "I think we're in a unique moment where what we're most worried about -- those of us in the national security and law enforcement community -- are individuals or small groups who are often radicalized online and who are motivated by and influenced by a range of ideologies, from foreign terrorism and foreign terrorist organizations to domestic grievances.
"Oftentimes what we're seeing in the most lethal form is from racially or ethnically-motivated ideologies.”
Monaco went on to explain the different types of information agents have to wade through, stating, "These are threats, they're hoaxes, they can involve claims of terrorist financing.
"So that is the volume -- the significant uptick in the volume and frequency of the types of reports we're getting."
Monaco also noted where some people are drawing inspiration. Sadly, it is from some of the most horrific images we have seen from the war itself. Monaco called it a “twisted inspiration,” as though they wanted to recreate the horrors from the images they were seeing from the war.
Over and above those threats, there has also been a rise in threats against Supreme Court justices and presidential candidates, which, sadly, has been the norm over the last six years or seven years.
While the media and Democrats are quick to point fingers at Republicans and conservatives, they take zero responsibility when their words and actions whip up extremists on the left that result in threats and attacks.
Until the political environment in this country calms down and the rhetoric stops, sadly, it will continue to be the norm.
