Ex-'SNL' actor speaks out against Bernie Sanders, Squad over Israel backlash

Actor and comedian Jon Lovitz is speaking out against Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Squad members who are opposing Israel following its response to attacks by Hamas.

Lovitz, who is Jewish, referred to Sanders as a "self-loathing" Jew.

"You know the difference between a communist and a Democratic Socialist? A Democratic Socialist is somebody you vote for, and then they take all your money and give back what they think you need. A communist — they just appoint themselves. There's no election and they do the exact same thing. That's the only difference," he told Fox News.

"And [Sanders is] saying, you know, we shouldn't have money for, you know, fund Israel, you know, and the Squad, those people… It's no secret they're horribly antisemitic," he said.

He also "singled out Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) for amplifying Hamas propaganda accusing the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) of killing hundreds of people in an air raid on al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza," Breitbart News reported.

“‘Free Palestine. I’m not antisemitic,’ but that means you want to get rid of Israel. She’s in her office — in her office, there are pictures of it. She’s got a map and a post-it over Israel, it says ‘Palestine.’ I mean, she’s Palestinian. I get it… but she’s spreading lies,” he said.

While most American lawmakers, including the majority of Democrats, have supported Israel's self-defense against Hamas, Sanders and some others continue to speak out against the efforts.

The views join the growing cease-fire movement from pro-Palestine groups seeking to end the war in Gaza.

So far, Israel has vowed to continue until Hamas is eliminated, pausing only briefly for humanitarian aid along with new plans in negotiation for a hostage release.

The actor's attacks on Sanders and the Squad are spot on, but have even more impact coming from an actor usually associated with the left in calling out problems among Democrats.
