CA Rep. and LA Mayoral Candidate Embroiled in Bribery Probe

You may want to sit down for this shocking news.

According to a recent Los Angeles Times report, Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA) is deeply embedded in a bribery investigation.

Bass is also in the midst of an LA mayoral campaign.

Surprise!

Bass just got her October surprise a little early.

The Times reported that Bass received a full ride at USC in 2011.

That scholarship is smack dab in the middle of a federal probe looking at former Los Angeles City Councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas and former USC Social Work Dean Marilyn Louise Flynn.

Both are facing bribery and fraud charges.

While Bass has not been accused of any wrongdoing, at least not yet, her name being attached to this probe is not going to help the case amid a mayoral election.

According to the report, Flynn had hoped this would be a quid pro quo situation.

Bass did not apply for the scholarship, but it was given to her with the hopes that as her political star rose, she could pass legislation for Flynn.

The report did not mention the specific legislation, but Bass did co-sponsor a bill in 2014 that would benefit USC.

The legislation was called the Child Welfare Workforce Partnership Act, which would have given USC more access to social work funding.

The bill never made it through, however. Even so, the fact that Bass co-sponsored the bill will surely receive a deep dive now.

Bass currently has a massive lead in the upcoming election, with the last polling showing her holding a 12 percent lead over Democrat Rick Caruso.

You better believe Caruso will jump all over this and use it to his advantage.
