Elon Musk jumps into WI Supreme Court race with massive contribution

Republicans took one on the chin during the last Supreme Court election in Wisconsin.

For the first time in 15 years, conservatives lost control of the court, but they have a chance to take it back.

With a liberal justice retiring, Elon Musk has decided to get involved. His PAC just dropped $1 million to back conservative candidate Brad Schimel.

Take Back Control

In 2023, Milwaukee County Judge Janet Protasiewicz defeated former state Supreme Court Justice Dan Kelly for the open seat on the court, giving liberals control.

Protasiewicz campaigned on pushing back against gerrymandering, and she did not disappoint her supporters when the issue came before the court.

With liberal Justice Ann Walsh Bradley retiring, conservatives have a chance to take back control of the court, and Musk is dropping big money to make that happen.

The race with Protasiewicz was reportedly the most expensive in state history, and this race is likely to surpass that.

In addition to Musk’s PAC, another group he has donated to, Building America’s Future, has dropped a massive ad buy on behalf of Schimel.

Republican strategist and Trump campaign alum Brian Seitchik stated, “Musk serves as a dye marker for Donald Trump. At this point, Musk’s involvement implies a blessing from the MAGA movement.

“If you don’t know much about a race, but you know Elon Musk is involved, the side he’s with is probably the MAGA side.”

Schimel is facing off against Susan Crawford, who has been outraising him, at least to this point. Now that Musk is involved, that could change, but Crawford will likely see donations tied to George Soros as well.

Musk has also been promoting the race on social media, posting, “Very important to vote Republican for the Wisconsin Supreme Court to prevent voting fraud!”

This is about more than just Musk’s money, as his confidence in the race will surely drive more small-money donors to back Schimel.

The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) is now involved as well, stating, “The DLCC is announcing this race on our target map because we can’t allow an influx of outside spending from MAGA billionaires to undermine the will of voters.”

That statement is utterly ridiculous when you look at the massive donations by outside money that were made to Protasiewicz during her run as well as people like Stacey Abrams when she ran for governor of Georgia.

I have discussed this many times, as I think outside money should be banned in all elections.

City elections should only be able to receive donations from residents and businesses of that city, and state elections should only be able to receive donations from businesses and residents that reside within that state.

It is absurd that someone who lives in Texas or California can influence a race in Wisconsin, yet it happens all the time.

Until we fix that issue, these elections are nothing more than a toy for billionaires of this country to manipulate… and it is an absolute and utter disgrace.
