Things are starting to get very ugly for the Trump camp in the state of Michigan.
Attorney General Dana Nessel has just charged 16 alternate electors for Trump with forgery related to actions taken during the 2020 election and the aftermath.
This gets very sticky, however, due to a precedent dating back to the JFK presidency, reports Breitbart.
Sticky Situation
According to the Breitbart report, the Trump campaign had created a set of alternative electors as a backup plan.
This was allegedly in place if the local courts or state legislature invalidated the electoral college in Michigan. By having the slate of alternate electors ready, they could have a slate in place for any legal battle.
The precedent was set for this strategy during the 1960 election by, you guessed it, Democrats.
On this twist, Politico reported, “Nixon’s Hawaii electors met and cast their three votes in an official ceremony. But nearby, Kennedy’s three elector nominees gathered and signed their own certificates, delivering them to Washington as though Kennedy had won the state.”
The report continued, “Until now, it’s been unclear whether the 1960 case of the Kennedy electors was truly analogous to 2020 Trump electors. But the unofficial Democratic certificates, obtained by POLITICO from the non-digitized files of the National Archives, show the three Kennedy electors signed documents that are remarkably similar to the false Trump-elector certificates.”
That, however, did not stop Nessel from filing her charges.
Nessel stated, “The false electors’ actions undermined the public’s faith in the integrity of our elections and, we believe, also plainly violated the laws by which we administer our elections in Michigan.
“My department has prosecuted numerous cases of election law violations throughout my tenure, and it would be malfeasance of the greatest magnitude if my department failed to act here in the face of overwhelming evidence of an organized effort to circumvent the lawfully cast ballots of millions of Michigan voters in a presidential election.”
That Kennedy report changes everything about this case, and, at the very least, should provide the group of 16 with a very valid defense.
However, do not expect Democrats to stop, as they are throwing everything at the wall right now in their effort to stop Donald Trump.
