Effort to Remove Judge Cannon Denied

Judge Aileen Cannon has been under fire since the very first day she was assigned to the Trump classified documents case.

This was almost a given considering that Donald Trump appointed her to the bench.

Now, a recent effort to have Cannon removed from the case has failed.

She’s Staying

If I am being honest, it was rather shocking that Cannon would even be eligible for the case since Donald Trump appointed her to the bench, but so be it.

Since taking the case, Cannon has been the friendliest judge in terms of hearing defense motions.

When Cannon announced that she was going to indefinitely delay the case until pretrial motions were settled, and this would include the presidential immunity claim before the Supreme Court, the complaints started to come in.

According to one report, there have been more than 1,000 complaints filed against Cannon in this case in an effort to remove her.

The complaints fell before 11th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals Chief Judge William Pryor, who sees this for what it is… an organized campaign to have Cannon removed.

In his ruling, he stated that he "has considered and dismissed four of those orchestrated complaints as merits-related and as based on allegations lacking sufficient evidence to raise an inference that misconduct has occurred."

He added, "Although many of the complaints allege an improper motive in delaying the case, the allegations are speculative and unsupported by any evidence.

"The Complaints also do not establish that Judge Cannon was required to recuse herself from the case because she was appointed by then-President Trump."

Former prosecutor Glenn Kirschner is among those criticizing Cannon, stating, "She has brought the case to a screeching halt by declining to resolve motions in a timely manner and by refusing to even set a trial date. Judge Cannon is NOT an honest broker of the law, and the federal law requires a judge to be removed when his/her ‘impartially might reasonably be questioned.’"

Ironically, the classified documents case was moving along but delayed after a series of motions were filed and the Supreme Court heard arguments on presidential immunity.

At the same time, the January 6 case that was before Judge Chutkan had been delayed months before, and nobody said a word, but that is because she was appointed by a Democrat.

The only legitimate criticism of Cannon is that she has taken considerable time in some of her rulings, but that is at her discretion.

People are just upset because she is actually allowing Trump’s attorneys to file motions and hear them out, the exact opposite of what has been happening in virtually every other case.

If things go as I suspect, that being none of these cases seeing the inside of a courtroom, all this complaining will be for naught.

I firmly believe that if Trump wins this election, his AG’s first task will be to drop all charges in the Jack Smith cases.
