Early Tulsi Gabbard vote disrupted, but confirmation eventually happens

Tulsi Gabbard's attempt to become Trump's director of national intelligence was THWARTED by a snowstorm in Washington, D.C..

Luckily for fans of Gabbard, she was able to be confirmed to Trump's administration once the Senate was able to reconvene after the storm.

The midnight vote may have been canceled, but that wouldn't stop Tulsi Gabbard for long.

Gabbard was confirmed on February 12 by a vote of 52-48.

Republicans hold a 53-47 advantage in the Senate, meaning there was one defector.

His name is Mitch McConnell.

Gabbard was sworn in as Trump's new director of national intelligence just a few hours after being confirmed by the Senate.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced, "Senate Republicans continued to confirm President Trump's exceptionally qualified nominees, most recently Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who will be joining us later at the White House for her swearing-in ceremony."

"It's imperative that the remainder of the president's Cabinet nominees are confirmed as quickly as possible."

Gabbard was sworn in just after 4 p.m., with Donald Trump himself in attendance for the ceremony.

McConnell, who has a history of medical episodes interrupting his ability to do his job, explained why he opposed Tulsi Gabbard:

"In my assessment, Tulsi Gabbard failed to demonstrate that she is prepared to assume this tremendous national trust," Moscow Mitch began.

The 82-year-old continued, "The nation should not have to worry that the intelligence assessments the president receives are tainted by a Director of National Intelligence with a history of alarming lapses in judgment."

Gabbard faced opposition from numerous members of the Senate, particularly for her "past meeting with former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, her previous FISA Section 702 stance, and her past support for NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden."

Luckily, Gabbard was able to control the narrative around those issues and get herself confirmed.

Will RFK Jr. be able to do the same soon?
