Dr. Fauci gets hospitalized

Dr. Anthony Fauci has been hospitalized.

This is according to a new report from Fox News.

According to the outlet, Fauci, the highly controversial COVID-19 "czar" and former head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), had to be hospitalized after he contracted the West Nile virus.

For those unfamiliar with the illness, the Cleveland Clinic reports:

West Nile is a virus that spreads through mosquito bites. Most people infected with West Nile virus don’t have symptoms. About 1 in 5 people have symptoms like fever, rash and muscle aches. Rarely, West Nile can cause serious brain and spinal cord inflammation (encephalitis and meningitis).

The details

It would appear that - as with many things in Washington, D.C. - we are learning about Fauci's hospitalization after the fact.

A spokesperson for Fauci told Fox that the 83-year-old was hospitalized for the West Nile Virus earlier this month and that Fauci has already been released from the hospital.

The outlet reports:

Fauci, 83, was hospitalized before he returned home where he is now recovering, the spokesperson says. The nation’s former top infectious-disease official is expected to make a full recovery from the virus . . .

Fauci, himself, has not released a public statement on the situation. Instead, he is only speaking through a spokesperson.

The spokesperson is quoted as saying, "Tony Fauci has been hospitalized with a case of West Nile virus. He is now home and is recovering. A full recovery is expected."

The COVID "czar"

The New York Post provides the details about Fauci's recent retirement from government.

Per the outlet:

Fauci retired as chief of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in 2022 after running it for nearly four decades. At the time of his departure he was the highest paid federal employee, with a $480,654 annual salary.

Fauci, leading up to his retirement, managed to become one of the most controversial figures in the government for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

This is because Fauci advocated for an iron-fisted government approach to the pandemic, pushing for all kinds of mandates that critics say caused significant harm to America. But, this is only part of the criticism that Fauci has received.

He has also been criticized for funding, through the NIH, controversial gain-of-function research, which he has vehemently denied. This is the same type research that was being conducted at the Chinese lab from which the coronavirus is believed to have originated. And, finally, Fauci has been criticized for subjecting animals - including dogs - to horrific lab experiments.
